  AFTER THE RESCUE: Samuil Manski, who reached Seattle on the Hie Maru in July 1941, became a congregant of Temple Emeth in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, and — in the congregation's own words — 'was instrumental in the memorial's planning and implementation' when a memorial to Chiune Sugihara was dedicated on the temple grounds in April 2000. He told his own story in a book, 'With God's Help'. A Sugihara Memorial Committee of temple members and the Boston area's Japanese community has held an annual programme at the garden since. Brought to the archive by David Rosen, who attended one of those commemorations. The congregation's account gives July; the ship's own manifest, which the archive holds, has him sailing from Kobe on 4 May and landing at Seattle on 18 May 1941 — the manifest is the record, and the page follows it.
