The compiled register has this line as a journalist aged 50 bound for the United States, with no given name at all. Age and occupation agree independently of the name, and the manifest supplies what the register lacked: he was Dawid Lejbus. That his last permanent residence is given as Tokyo rather than a Polish town is itself a record of how long the wait in Japan had become. He was detained on arrival with the rest of the sheet.
